  1. An interesting tit-bit.
The light blue blanket that you see, in which the baby is wrapped, is what my father-n-law gave to my parents when I was born in 1952! little did he know at that time that years later the same blanket would be used to wrap his grandsons first and then his great grand daughter.

  2. I am guessing Avni is the name of the little one? Thanks for the pictures Col. They bring back memories of when my little girls were born and your granddaughter looks every bit as sweet. It must be such a pleasure to hold her - I envy you! Nice bit of family heirloom that she has around her. Thanks very much for sharing..that makes it truly a THCC "families" site.

  5. Thanks Veer & Sandhya,
As of now they are thinking of Avni as the name, that's why I put it in the label only.

  6. Not sure though if they are going to spell it as 'Avani' or 'Avni'

  7. Avani is interesting..One of the tamil months can be spelt that way in English - I think it rolls around in mid-August. So the summer baby would be named after a summer month - atleast for some.

  9. I was looking up the meaning of Avani, it means 'The earth'

  10. Nice pics. When I read in the first few comments that it was going to be 'Avani' or 'Avni', I was about to comment on the 'earth' part of it and provide the meaning. But then, you already gave the meaning later on. A 'miss'ed opportunity... :)

  12. Was not aware that Avani meant Earth - very nice if that happens to be the name.

A side story on my daughter who also has a name with an earthy connection.. We named our 2nd girl, Dhiya, after the earthen lamps that people light in temples and during festivals (also happens to be the logo of my alma mater, IIT-M). Later on, I was asked by quite a few people if I have a thing for Diya, a Tamil actress supposedly. I was not aware of that connection at all until it was mentioned..
